Part 6 - Start Engines / Before Take Off Roll

Start Engine:
  • After pushback and park brake set, check clear of other traffic/obstacles, start engine.
  • PF: "Start number 1"
  • PM: "Starting number 1"; Pull Start Switch, check lights
  • ~8% N2, EGT, N1, FF, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp indications appear. If not, refer to Engine Start Malfunctions pages
  • PF: "N1"
  • PM: "Oil Pressure"
  • ~25% N2, PF: "Fuel ON"; Start Timer (PF & PM)
  • PF: "Light Up"; Hand on FCS
  • PF: "N2 50%"
  • PM: "Valve Closed"; Check Switch and Lights
  • ( Continue start next engine )
After all engines running:
  • 5As SR TAG
  • APU >> OFF
  • HYD AUX #4 >> AUTO
  • ANTI ICE >> As required
  • AFT CARGO HEAT >> As required
  • AIRCON PACKS >> 2, 3 Norm
  • STATUS >> Check 10 indicators
  • RECALL >> Check any EICAS
  • TRIMS >> Pitch trims, Rudder, Control wheel centre
  • AUTOBRAKES >> RTO
  • Ground Equipment >> CLEAR
Call GND:
  • "Cockpit to GND, clear to disconnect, hand signal and pin on L/R side"
"AFTER START CHECKLIST"

Call Ground:
  • "___ Ground, ____, Request Taxi"
  • PF: Taxi light >> ON
  • PF: "Flaps 20"
  • Both: CLEAR L/C/R
  • PF: Parking brake >> OFF; N1 not more than 40% for taxi; 20kts max, turn corner <>
  • PF: Check rudders; "Full Left / Right" PM: "Full Left / Right" after confirm indication
  • PM: Check Control Wheels and Column
  • PM: Select ENG page, VNAV on PF's FMS, THR LIM on PM's FMS
  • PACKs >> NORM
"BEFORE TAKEOFF CHECKS TO THE LINE"

Approaching RW:
  • Both: "Approach Clear, RW__ identified, RW Clear"
  • Wait for instructions from TOWER
When cleared to lineup / enter and hold / takeoff:
  • PM:
  • >> Strobe light - ON
  • >> Landing lights - ON (Day - Inbound, night - both)
  • >> WX - ON
  • >> Transponder - TA/RA
  • >> AUTOBRAKES - RTO
"BEFORE TAKEOFF CHECKS AFTER THE LINE"
  • Take Off Clearance >> OBTAINED
